Mucoid plaque is an encrusted layer of hardened mucus mixed with retained fecal matter and other waste that clings to the walls of the colon. It is the result of an acidic colon and clogs the colon passageways. When removed, it looks like a rubbery tube that mirrors the shape of the colon and is usually dark brown in color. Its texture is similar to that of a rubber tire and it varies in length.
